Ahmet Eyup Turkaslan died following devastating earthquake
Second-tier Ahmet Eyup Turkaslan, the goalie for the Turkish team Yeni Malatyaspor, has been verified as having passed away in the earthquake.

Turkaslan was allegedly trapped in a collapsed building, according to earlier claims made by the club.
After arriving in 2021, 28-year-old Turkaslan has played six times for Yeni Malatyaspor of the Turkish second division.
His wife, Kubra Turkaslan, who managed to escape the debris, is still alive.
Football player Yannick Bolasie, who presently represents Caykur Rizespor of Turkey’s second division, was devastated to learn of Turkaslan’s passing.
“Rest in peace, Eyup Ahmet Turkaslan, my brother. Someone may be in the dugout one second, and then vanish the next,” he tweeted.

Ghana’s Football Association said on Tuesday that football player Christian Atsu had been pulled from the wreckage.
Atsu, a former Newcastle midfielder, signed for Hatayspor in the Turkish Super Lig in September. The club is located close to the epicentre of the powerful quake in the southern province of Hatay.

Following the earthquake, all professional football matches in Turkey were postponed indefinitely.

One of the seismically active regions on the planet is at the Turkish-Syrian border.
Turkey hasn’t had an earthquake of this size since 33,000 people died in the eastern region of Erzincan in 1939.
More than 17,000 people perished in a 7.4-magnitude earthquake in 1999.
