Michael Chandler officially declared his intention to take on Conor McGregor by stepping up to welterweight and accepting a coaching position on The Ultimate Fighter.

The former Bellator lightweight champion has been claiming to face McGregor ever since joining the UFC.

Chandler would gladly move up to welterweight for the battle if the Irishman returned to The Ultimate Fighter, and perhaps participate in a promotional stint as the opposing coach.

Chandler indicated that Tony Ferguson’s claims that he would face Conor McGregor on the show are exaggerated during an interview with the Believe You Me podcast.

“I know for a fact that was merely a tweet tossed out there to see if it got any attention.”

“That has been discussed. Obviously, everyone knows I’d be interested. Conor and I would be on The Amazing Race for four to six weeks, or however long we would be filming that stuff. The tension, rivalry, competition, trash talk, and general enmity that would be built up before going into a training camp and then fighting after the show.

“I’m looking forward to the fight. That is common knowledge. The fans want the fight, Dana has stated publicly that he wants the fight, and thus the UFC wants the fight. I’ve really heard from several UFC employees that it’s the fight that everyone is talking about. Man, what a battle. Can you image what happened in the first round? Can you picture hearing The Foggy Dew and then hearing my song and going out there? In the first round, it’s just two guys trying to finish each other out. Massive.”

Chandler is only 5’8 and not even a particularly large lightweight, so the weight difference would be a considerable issue.

McGregor claims he may even be bigger than the Irishman during his current spell away from the octagon, despite the fact that he has dramatically bulked up over the past two years.
