PSL 8: Trophy to be displayed on February 9 at Shalimar Bagh in Lahore
For the forthcoming eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is scheduled to begin on February 13 and end on March 19, all eyes will be on the newly designed trophy.
On February 9, the trophy will be on display at Shalimar Bagh in Lahore (Garden). The unveiling ceremony will be attended by each team’s captain as well as Najam Sethi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee.
“Yes, the newly designed trophy will be presented to the winners of the eighth edition. The one that was used and presented to winners of the last seven editions will no longer be there. Now a freshly crafted trophy having a better look will be unveiled on February 9 at the Shalimar Garden. Multan Sultan and Lahore Qalandars captains will be available. Efforts are being made to have all the captains for the trophy unveiling ceremony,” a PCB official when contacted said.
When asked how the trophy will vary from the one used during the previous seven editions, he responded that it would better represent Pakistan and its cricket.
“Efforts have been made to project Pakistan’s image in a better way through the trophy. Hopefully, cricketing fans around the world would like the new trophy,” he said.
Pindi Stadium will host the most games during the ninth PSL season, which kicks off on February 13 and is played at four different sites over a 37-day spectacle, with eleven games.
The opening game of the league will take place at the Multan Stadium between the Multan Sultans and the Lahore Qalandars.
“The ceremony will be organised by us in a major way. A number of intriguing events are planned. Hopefully, the ceremony will be as good as it was in Dubai a few years back,” the official said.
