Afridi is a member of the Pashtun tribe of Zakhakhel Afridi. [4] He was raised in Landi Kotal, a town in Pakistan’s Khyber District that is close to the Afghan border. He is the youngest of seven brothers; the oldest, Riaz Afridi, is 15 years older and played one Test match for Pakistan in 2004. Shaheen began his cricket career at Landi Kotal’s Tatara Ground, which bears the name of the neighbouring Tatara Hills.

Shaheen has only played tennis-ball cricket up until the FATA Under-16 trials in 2015, when Riaz Afridi introduced him to hard-ball cricket. With his four wickets in the 2-1 victories in the One-Day and Twenty20 series, Shaheen contributed to the Under-16 tour of Australia in November 2015 as a result of his success at this level.

It was claimed in March 2021 that Ansha, the eldest daughter of Shahid Afridi, and Shaheen Shah Afridi will become engaged.
