Wanindu Hasaranga will be missed by Gladiators in PSL 2023
PSL 2023: Wanindu Hasaranga, an experienced Sri Lankan cricketer, is set to miss the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to his home board’s failure to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
The Quetta Gladiators selected Hasaranga in the platinum round of the PSL 2023 draught, and the team was anticipating his arrival on Monday, February 21.
The 25-year-old was unable to obtain the necessary NOC from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), preventing him from going to Pakistan to play in the league. He is occupied right now in Sri Lanka playing first-class cricket.
A Gladiators representative told Geo News that the team is aware of Hasaranga’s unavailability and is looking into possible replacement players.
Despite having updated the franchise on the matter, a PCB source expressed hope that things would turn around. But it now appears unlikely that the Sri Lankan player will qualify for the PSL.
Before Hasaranga, SLC had also turned down Kusal Mendis, who had been selected by the Lahore Qalandars. The reigning champions then decided to switch Mendis for Shai Hope.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa, on the other hand, was given permission to take part in PSL 8, and he is now in Pakistan playing for Peshawar Zalmi.
On March 19, the PSL 8 final and closing ceremony will take place in Lahore, which will also serve as the site of the playoffs.
In addition to receiving the Supernova Trophy, the victor will also receive a check for Rs120 million, while the losers will each receive a check for Rs48 million.
Lahore Qalandars will try to become the first team to win consecutive championships, while Islamabad United will try to make history by winning the trophy three times.
Eleven games will be played in Rawalpindi, nine games each in Karachi and Lahore, and five games in Multan.
