Mitchell Starc’s 5-53 and Mitchell Marsh’s blazing 66 helped Australia demolish India by 10 wickets in the second one-day international on Sunday, tying the series at 1-1.

Starc, a left-arm quick, rattled the Indian batting with his pace and swing, dismissing them for 117 in 26 overs in Visakhapatnam.

Travis Head (51) and Marsh, who hit six sixes in his 36-ball blitz, then ripped through the Indian bowling to romp home in 11 overs and tie the three-match series with one game remaining.

Australia won the chase with 39 overs to spare, avenging their opening defeat.

After the tourists decided to bowl first due to overnight rain, Starc led the team’s lethal attack by dismissing Shubman Gill for a duck.

Starc’s two consecutive strikes to dismiss returning skipper Rohit Sharma for 13 and then Suryakumar Yadav for a second straight first-ball duck put India on the back foot.

KL Rahul played out the hat-trick ball but only lasted 11 deliveries before falling leg before wicket to Starc, who finished with figures of 4-31 in his first six overs.

Off the bowling of Sean Abbott, who took three wickets, skipper Steve Smith took a stunning one-handed catch at first slip to dismiss Hardik Pandya for one.

Smith went full stretch to his right and was airborne when he caught an edge from Pandya, eliciting praise on social media for his “superman” effort.

Virat Kohli attempted to rally India with a 31-run innings that included four boundaries before being caught in front by Nathan Ellis.

Wickets continued to fall, and India’s woes were exacerbated by the dismissal of Ravindra Jadeja for 16 off the bowling of Ellis.

Starc finished the innings with his ninth five-wicket haul in ODIs. Axar Patel, who replaced Shardul Thakur in the team, was unbeaten on 29 after hitting two sixes.

The left-handed Head and Marsh opened fire, slamming Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami to the ground.

Head launched the attack with two straight boundaries off Siraj, and Marsh quickly joined in with a string of fours and sixes.

Marsh, who had 81 in his team’s first loss, hit two consecutive sixes off Pandya to reach fifty off 28 balls.

Marsh hit the winning boundary soon after, sending the series decider to Chennai on Wednesday.
