The president of the Spanish football league La Liga, Javier Tebas, has refuted claims that the league is experiencing a financial crisis.

Tebas was responding to a report that claimed that a TV deal for La Liga with the “DAZN” streaming service and a deal with the CVC investment fund, which has given money to most of the participating clubs in exchange for a share of their revenue from the sale of audiovisual rights, were on the verge of dissolving.

According to the story, CVC was having concerns about the viability of its deal, which includes money from the sale of rights, and DAZN was not receiving the return it had planned for on its investment in TV rights. As a result, the agreements were in “severe danger of not being sustained.”

According to a report, Tebas tweeted in response to the article that it was “false news” and that “DAZN is fulfilling its payments in accord and everything is calm and as planned with CVC”.

Following Tebas’ social media post, La Liga released a statement claiming that “it is categorically false that DAZN and CVC are considering terminating their contracts with La Liga for financial and legal issues.”

“DAZN is up to date with payments and is fulfilling the signed contract,” says the statement, adding “La Liga and DAZN are and have worked together from the first moment in harmony and with common objectives.”

La Liga has made an effort to limit the spending of its clubs by imposing wage restrictions in an effort to keep them out of debt. This has made it challenging for many Spanish clubs to match the pay packages offered in other leagues, such the Premier League.
