Johan Botha, the head coach of Karachi Kings, summarized his team’s campaign in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight, citing skipper Imad Wasim’s red-hot form as one of the former champions’ positives.

In an interview conducted before the Kings’ final PSL 8 match against the home team Lahore Qalandars, head coach Botha pragmatically outlined the team’s strengths and weaknesses before praising captain Imad for his outstanding batting performance throughout the season.

“Imad batted as well as I’ve ever seen him bat. So, he’s obviously had a purple patch in the tournament, and batting-wise, he’s been outstanding,” Botha said.

The Kings’ head coach continued by mentioning other PSL 8 standouts for his team and praising James Vince, Mohammad Amir, and Irfan Khan Niazi for their significant contributions.

“James Vince was excellent for a brief period of time. Niazi, as an emerging player, should get his name out there. He’s a really talented player, an excellent fielder, and he’s shown flashes,” Botha said.

“Amir was bit with niggles, hot and cold but you can never question his commitment to the team. He was outstanding whenever he was on the field. So, hopefully, in the future, he will be 100 percent fit for all ten games. “He’s still a standout performer,” he insisted.

Botha went on to say that some close losses hurt the team’s campaign this season and prevented them from qualifying for the playoffs.

“We obviously had a couple of close losses and that’s going to hurt you someway along the line. “We lost three games by single digits and another two games [by a narrow margin],” Botha explained.

“It’s been that close, but at the end of the day, that doesn’t get written at the end of the tournament,” he concluded.
