Najam Sethi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee, provided the most recent details on the Asia Cup 2023 controversy in a Monday interview with the media in Lahore.

The future of the Asian event, which was initially planned for September of this year, is uncertain as a result of India’s refusal to visit Pakistan for political reasons.

The Asia Cup will be held in PCB for the first time since 2008 in 2023. However, India’s stance on this issue jeopardized the future of the Asia Cup.

Sethi has been dealing with the Asia Cup issue ever since taking over as PCB’s head in December of last year.

“The situation remains unchanged. India will not visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup. This is a very difficult and tricky situation that has yet to be resolved “Sethi agreed.

“There are two separate issues, one of ICC and one of ACC. This isn’t just about the Asia Cup; we also have to host the Champions Trophy. I’ll go speak with both the ICC and the ACC about this “He went on to say.

It should be noted that PCB management committee chairman Sethi, along with COO Salman Naseer and Faisal Hasnain, will discuss this matter at the ICC meeting on March 20 in Dubai.

Sethi sought advice from the federal government prior to the crucial meeting with ICC and ACC officials.

“I approached our government to get their take on the situation. If our patron [Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif] asks us to go and play World Cup India, whether or not they come here to play Asia Cup, we will have to consider it “He stated.

“So far, our government’s position has been consistent: if India does not come here, we will not participate in the World Cup. I believe we have more security concerns in India because of the ongoing communal conflicts there “He emphasised.

“As a result, we must keep our government and security agencies informed when making decisions regarding the Asia Cup in Pakistan and the World Cup in India,” Sethi concluded.

After Indian Cricket Board Secretary Jay Shah, who is also President of the ACC, stated that India “can’t” send a team to Pakistan and that the Asia Cup would be moved to a neutral venue, former PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja made bold statements.

Last year, his announcement caught Pakistan off guard, and the PCB chairman at the time cautioned that it might “split” the international cricket community.
