Anrich Nortje, a fast bowler for South Africa, was removed from the team prior to the second Test against the West Indies after groyne discomfort during the first Test, Cricket South Africa announced on Monday.

Following an evaluation by the South Africa medical team, Nortje has been told to take it easy as a precaution.

Anrich Nortje, a Proteas fast bowler, “has been released, as a precaution, from the Test squad after feeling mild groyne discomfort during the first Betway Test,” according to a statement from the CSA.

The paceman, who is 29 years old, bowled 5/36 and 1/48 in the Proteas’ 87-run victory in the opening match at Centurion.

The quick bowler’s replacement has not yet been announced. The South Africa team also has Kagiso Rabada, Gerald Coetzee, Marco Jansen, and Wiaan Mulder as pace options.

The World Test Championship includes the two-game series, although despite winning the first game, South Africa is no longer in the running for the WTC Final, which will be held on June 7 at the Oval.

Charl Langeveldt, the South Africa bowling coach, was also let go from the team for personal reasons. He served in that capacity only through the first Test in Centurion before being hired as the bowling coach of the IPL team Punjab Kings.
