Shadab Khan calls captain Babar Azam king
Shadab Khan dispelled the notion that he was competing for the position of captain of the national team and made it clear that Babar Azam is still the captain and is simply resting.
“Babar Azam, our captain, is currently taking a break. Shadab said,
“Babar Azam is king, and I am his minister,” during a post-game press conference after his Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Islamabad United lost to Peshawar Zalmi, led by Babar.
Shadab was named captain of the three-match T20 series by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), allowing senior players like captain Babar to rest.
There are rumours that the star batter may lose captaincy in one format as a result of the PCB’s move, and that the board is testing players for the leadership position.
Prior to his cryptic tweet, Shaheen Shah Afridi was expected to lead the team. However, the board appointed Shadab as captain for the Sharjah-based Afghanistan series.
Shadab responded that the Afghan team was a good Twenty20 team and that he anticipated a successful series against them when asked about the challenges of the UAE tour.
Shadab stated, “We will have to play smart cricket without fear.”
Due to the inclusion of numerous PSL performers, Shadab will be in charge of a relatively young team.
Mohammad Yousuf has been appointed interim head and batting coach for the brief Sharjah tour by the PCB in addition to the series to “ensure continuity.”
Since last year, Yousuf has worked as a batting coach for the national team and at the National High-Performance Centre.
