Shaheen Afridi may lead Pakistan vs Afghanistan T20I series
Shaheen Shah Afridi might be selected as the interim captain for Pakistan’s forthcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan while Babar Azam is expected to be rested.
According to sources aware of the arrangement, Mohammad Rizwan will also receive a break for the series that will be played in the United Arab Emirates in addition to Babar (UAE).
Moreover, the selectors are expected to choose Saim Ayub, Haseebullah Khan, Azam Khan, and pacer Ihsanullah for the series. The selection of all-rounders Faheem Ashraf and Imad Wasim is also up for grabs.
The change occurs a day after the three-match T20I series between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s schedule was altered.
The games were originally scheduled to take place at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on March 25, 27, and 29. They will now occur in the same stadium on March 24, 26, and 27.
ACB in a statement said, “Afghanistan Cricket Board and Pakistan Cricket Board have jointly agreed to make slight tweaks to the itinerary of Afghanistan’s home three-match T2OI series against Pakistan. The start of the series is brought forward by a day and will now start on March 24, with the last two games to be played on March 26 and 27 in Sharjah, UAE,”
“The changes in itinerary are made due to the unavailability of the Hawk-Eye Technology for the previously agreed upon dates. The two boards have agreed upon the changes in itinerary to ensure all the necessary broadcast technologies are available for the inaugural T20I series between the two sides.”
In addition, Muhammad Yousuf, a former Pakistan cricketer, is expected to be selected as the team’s interim head coach for the series against Afghanistan.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which was unable to reach an agreement with Mickey Arthur about the job of head coach, is expected to make the decision.
March 24: 1st T20I, Sharjah
March 26: 2nd T20I, Sharjah
March 27: 3rd T20I, Sharjah
