Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) goalkeeper Sergio Rico has been discharged from intensive care, according to a recent hospital report, as he recuperates from a severe head injury.

Rico, 29, will remain under medical care at the Virgen del Rocio hospital in Seville, where he was admitted on May 28 following an incident involving a horse during a nearby festival.

“Sergio Rico has been discharged from the ICU … where he was under close surveillance and monitoring during the five weeks he has been cared for by the Intensive Care team, along with other specialists,” said the hospital in a report sent to media.

“As of today, he has been admitted to the ward, where he will continue to receive medical and nursing care from another team of specialists at the hospital.”

After being in a coma, Rico has regained consciousness and is now able to communicate, as confirmed by hospital sources last week.

Rico, who hails from Sevilla, had previously achieved success by winning the Europa League twice with his hometown club. He joined Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent basis in 2020 after a loan stint with the team.
