Abdul Razzaq shocked by Inzamam ul Haq’s resignation

Former Pakistani all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has shared his perspective on the sudden resignation of Inzamam ul Haq from his position as the chief selector, amidst ongoing criticism of Pakistan’s national cricket team’s performance in the World Cup. Razzaq’s comments have added an interesting dimension to the controversy.

“In my point of view, Inzamam ul Haq should not have resigned. A person resigns when they are guilty,” Razzaq said, implying that Inzamam’s resignation could be seen as an admission of guilt.

Razzaq further suggested that if Inzamam had no involvement in the company in question, he should have remained in his role and allowed the investigation to proceed. “If I haven’t done such a thing, then why should I leave the job? It could be that his resignation is temporary, and he may rejoin later,” Razzaq stated, leaving room for the possibility of Inzamam’s return to his position.

He also expressed his confusion regarding the necessity of such companies and highlighted that agents may benefit the most from them while increasing their public relations.

The controversy surrounding Inzamam’s resignation stems from allegations that he holds shares in a company owned by players’ agent Talha Rehmani. This revelation has raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest, particularly given that Rehmani represents some of Pakistan’s top cricketers, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Questions have also been raised about whether Inzamam’s dual role as Chief Selector and a shareholder in a company representing prominent cricketers might have influenced player selection decisions.

In response to the allegations, Inzamam stated that he had never been associated with the cricket board and expressed his distress over the accusations leveled against him.

To address the controversy, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has established a five-member fact-finding committee tasked with investigating the reported conflict of interest related to the team selection process. The committee is expected to submit its findings and recommendations to PCB management promptly.

The situation remains fluid, with cricket enthusiasts and analysts closely following developments as the investigation unfolds, while questions regarding transparency and ethics in cricket administration continue to be a subject of discussion and debate.
