Great Britain dominates Pakistan in 6-1 hockey win in Olympic Qualifier opener – FIH
The men’s hockey team from Pakistan suffered a severe blow in their opening Paris Olympics qualifying match against Great Britain, losing 6-1 in Muscat, Oman.
In the first quarter, Waller Jack found the net via a Penalty Corner, giving Great Britain the early advantage. In the second quarter, they increased their lead to 2-0 as the momentum kept going in their favor.
Two more goals were scored as Great Britain continued to dominate, extending the advantage to 4-0 in the third quarter. The second and third goals were provided by Ward Sam, and Calnan Will added the fourth to further establish their lead.
sixteenth place Shahid Hannan scored the lone goal in the fourth quarter to help Pakistan regain some pride. But Great Britain never gave up, as Wallace Zachary scored a penalty stroke for the fifth goal and Bandurak Nicholas sealed the victory with the sixth.
Pakistan is on the same stage as Malaysia, China, and England in pool A. They will face off against China tomorrow in their next battle, and they will play Malaysia on January 18.
In a thrilling match earlier, 23rd-ranked China shocked everyone by winning 3-2 in the final seconds of play against 13th-ranked Malaysia thanks to a penalty corner.
