IPL 2024 final: SRH registers lowest first-inning score in IPL final
In the 2024 IPL final, the Sunrisers Hyderabad were dismissed for 113 by the Kolkata Knight Riders, marking the lowest opening innings score in the IPL’s 17-year span.
Previously, the record for the lowest total in an IPL final was held by Mumbai Indians with 129/8 against Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017, a match MI narrowly won by one run.
In IPL history, there have been three instances where scores under 150 were defended successfully in the finals: Mumbai Indians with 149 against CSK in 2019, 148 against CSK in 2013, and Deccan Chargers with 143 against RCB in 2009.
The formidable opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head were sent back to the pavilion within the initial overs, leading to a lackluster performance from the SRH batsmen. Klaasen, Tripathi, and Reddy made promising starts but failed to anchor the innings.
Andre Russell stood out among the bowlers, claiming three wickets for 19 runs, while Harshit Rana and Mitchell Starc each secured two wickets in the game.
