India vs. Pakistan: More than just a game, says Pant as World Cup clash looms
India’s cricket squad is gearing up for their opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 against Ireland on June 5, with the highly anticipated game against Pakistan on June 9 capturing a lot of attention.
Hardik Pandya, the team’s vice-captain, expressed his gratitude to the fans on Star Sports’ ‘Caught and Bold,’ highlighting his commitment to concentrate on the match amidst the excitement.
“There is a crowd everywhere you go. I’m sure in this group as well everyone wants to make sure we win the India-Pakistan game. So that is very normal, which I accept. At the same point of time, I do my best to disconnect from all those things and focus on the sport,” stated Pandya.
“I’m very grateful to fans, they come and support us with all love and everything. But, at the same point of time, when we go inside there we can’t think of anything else,” he continued.
Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batsman, also spoke about the intense atmosphere surrounding the India-Pakistan game, calling it a ‘special’ encounter.
“It’s always quite exciting because it’s a special match. You always feel more pressure because people remember these matches for a long time,” Pant said during an interview with Star Sports.
In the history of T20 World Cups, India and Pakistan have competed against each other seven times, with India securing five victories and Pakistan claiming one. One game concluded in a draw, which India won through a bowl-out. Pakistan’s lone win was in 2021 when they overcame Virat Kohli’s side.
