Pakistan reaches spot in SAFF U17 Championship semi-finals
Pakistan’s U17 football team secured a spot in the semi-finals of the 2024 SAFF U17 Championship in Bhutan with an impressive 5-1 win over Sri Lanka in their final group match.
Subhan Kareem started the scoring for Pakistan in the 20th minute, giving them an early 1-0 lead. Mohammad Talha extended the advantage 10 minutes later, making it 2-0.
Subhan added his second goal in the 36th minute, giving Pakistan a comfortable 3-0 lead by halftime.
In the second half, Sri Lanka’s defense collapsed, leading to an own goal that increased Pakistan’s lead to 4-0. Abdul Ghani further extended the lead in the 56th minute, making it 5-0. Sri Lanka managed to score a consolation goal in the 76th minute, but it was not enough to threaten Pakistan’s commanding performance.
In their previous match, Pakistan played to a 3-3 draw against Bhutan. Khabib Khan opened the scoring in the 38th minute, followed by Subhan Kareem’s goal in the 46th minute, making it 2-0.
Bhutan fought back to equalize, but Pakistan briefly regained the lead with Abdul Samad’s 67th-minute goal before Bhutan tied it up again. Pakistan had earlier started the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Nepal.
