Apple has made a point of releasing four new iPhones in September: two “regular” models and two “Pro” models. We anticipate the same in 2022, and customers will be faced with the same dilemma: “Do I go with the iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro?”
They are typically the same size and shape, as well as sharing the same basic features, right down to the processor inside. The Pro models have an additional camera on the back, a LiDAR sensor, a screen refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a stainless steel frame. The non-Pro models are made of lighter aluminium and come in a variety of fun colours, as well as being significantly less expensive.
So, is the iPhone 14 or the iPhone 14 Pro the right one for you? Let’s talk about their design, cameras, performance, and battery life, see if we can help you make up your mind.
Performance and Software
The primary difference between the iPhone 14 Pro-series and the iPhone 14/iPhone 14 Max is that the former will be equipped with the all-new Apple A16 Bionic chip, whereas the latter will continue to use last year’s Apple A15 chipset. This will undoubtedly be the first time that Apple distinguishes its more premium models with a faster chipset, while the less expensive models will use last year’s processor.
However, the Apple A15 is still the best all-around mobile chip, so reusing it for another year isn’t a bad idea. Nonetheless, many people may be irritated by Apple’s decision because the company has always used the most recent chipset in all of its modern devices.
Camera
Apple is working on a significant camera upgrade for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Cupertino is expected to release a new, significantly larger primary camera sensor, a massive 1/1.3-inch 48MP main sensor. Despite having such a large sensor, the iPhone Pro family will almost certainly use pixel-binning to combine four pixels into one and eventually deliver 12MP photographs, as it does now, but with improved dynamic range and light sensitivity in low-light conditions.
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are set to arrive with a triple camera system, similarly to their predecessors: the 48MP wide-angle camera is likely joined by a 12MP ultra-wide and a 3.3x 12MP telephoto lens in order to achieve maximum versatility. The will certainly be a LiDAR sensor on the rear, allowing the phone to detect depth and enrich portraiture and all the additional AR functions of the devices.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro in a nutshell:
- Same shape and size
- iPhone 14 to come in vibrant, fun colors, Pro models are usually more muted and classy
- iPhone 14 to be lighter, Pro to have a heavier stainless steel frame
- 60 Hz on iPhone 14, 120 Hz on iPhone 14 Pro
- iPhone 14 Pro has telephoto lens and LiDAR sensor
- Battery life should be about the same
