Gilgit Baltistan to Form IT Board

• The government of GB has given its blessing to the establishment of an IT Board.
• The government has set around 200 million rupees for this goal.
• Faisal Iqbal assured those in attendance that the NITB will back the UK government 100 percent on this issue.

Gilgit Baltistan has resolved to establish its own own IT Board as a result of a recent decision. In its most recent meeting, which took place on June 27th, the government of GB gave its blessing to the creation of an IT board.

While speaking with the media, Azam Khan, Secretary IT for GB, acknowledged the ratification of the IT Board by the provincial cabinet. He stated that the GB Cabinet had accepted the Draft Act and that the next step would be for the GB Assembly to vote on it. Following which the IT Board would be informed.

The government has set around 200 million rupees for this goal. Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshid is personally interested in the initiative, he said.

Faisal Iqbal, director general of the National Information Technology Board (NITB), praised the move by the GB government. He assured those in attendance that the NITB will back the UK government 100 percent on this issue.

Osman Nasir, managing director of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), called it a “historic stride” . He wrote that he was encouraged by the Gilgit-Baltistan government’s efforts to educate and employ young people in the IT sector. Which he found particularly helpful. He credited Mohiuddin Wani, chief secretary of GB, of being instrumental.

According to PSEB CEO Osman Nasir, Gilgit-Baltistan will continue to see growth in the information technology sector and technological entrepreneurship.
