TalkShopLive will join with TikTok for live shopping
Two people who know how the business works told the international news agency on Saturday that TikTok plans to partner with TalkShopLive in Los Angeles to launch its live shopping platform in North America by outsourcing its operations.
The FT said that the companies are still working out the details and that no contracts have been signed yet.
Reuters asked TikTok for a comment, but the company didn’t respond right away. A TalkShopLive representative also declined to comment.
TikTok Shop, a live shopping platform owned by Bytedance, is available in Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, among other Asian markets. The report says that it came out in the UK last year.
The TikTok Shop app lets users buy things during live broadcasts by clicking on links in the app. The TalkShopLive app, which is based in Los Angeles, works in a similar way.
On its website, TalkShopLive says that it is a “social buying and selling platform with live streaming.”
Last year, Walmart and TalkShopLive made a deal for TalkShopLive to provide shoppable content through videos that can be embedded on Walmart.com.
The rumoured partnership comes at a time when TikTok, whose biggest market is the United States, is being questioned by U.S. lawmakers about how well it protects user data.
