Xiaomi has delayed launch of Xiaomi 13 series this month
Launch of the Xiaomi 13 series, originally scheduled for the beginning of this month, has been delayed. Now, the company has officially announced the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro as its latest top-of-the-line phones.
Both phones use Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is made using the 4nm process at TSMC.
Both devices have a new design and a big improvement in the camera department. Let’s look at the most important features of both phones.
The Xiaomi 13 Pro has a 6.73-inch display with 120Hz variable refresh, 1440 x 3200px resolution, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG and 1920Hz DC dimming against aggressive PWM. The display also has a sensor that lets it change the colour temperature on the fly based on the colour temperature of the room.
Also, the phone has the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor with LPDDR5X memory and next-generation UFS 4.0 storage.
The camera setup on the back of the phone is three 50MP cameras. The famous 1-inch Sony IMX989 1.6m sensor is now paired with a Leica lens that has an f/1.9 aperture and Hyper OIS.
A big improvement is also made to the telephoto camera. Again, it has 50 megapixels, but it also has a 3x zoom range and a Leica Floating Lens element. The f/2.2 ultrawide camera also has 50MP.
The phone also has a 4,820 mAh battery and Xiaomi’s Surge G1 chip, which allows safe 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Other important features include stereo speakers tuned for Dolby Atmos with Dolby’s new head tracking feature, an IR blaster, and, of course, IP68 protection from dust and water.
The phone also comes in four different colours: white, black, green, and light blue.
The plain Xiaomi 13 is the second phone in the set. It has a 6.36-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2400px and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It also works with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HLG.
The phone also has a main camera with 50 MP, f/1.8, 23mm, 1/1.56″, 1.0um, Hyper OIS. There is a 10MP camera with OIS, a Leica lens, an f/2.0 aperture, and a 3x zoom that works right out of the box. The ultrawide is now 12MP and has an aperture of f/2.2. It likely doesn’t have autofocus.
Also, the phone has a 4,500 mAh battery and can be charged quickly with 67W of wired power, 50W of wireless power, or 10W of reverse wireless power.
Other important features are the Dolby Atmos stereo speakers with Dolby Head Tracking, the IR blaster, and the IP68 certification that protects against dust and water.
The phone comes in black, light green, light blue, grey, and white, among other colours. There are also Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue, which are also bright.
In China, you can pre-order the two phones, and they will start shipping on December 14. The Xiaomi 13 starts at CNY3,999 ($575) for the 8/128GB version, while the 12/512GB version costs CNY4,999 ($720). The middle 8/256GB unit costs CNY4,299, and the 12/256GB unit costs CNY4,599.
Xiaomi 13 Pro 8/128GB costs CNY4,999 ($720), while 12/512GB costs CNY6,299 ($900). We don’t yet know when or how much it will cost in other countries.
