Xiaomi 13 Ultra
The rumoured successor to the Xiaomi 12s Ultra from the 13 series, the Xiaomi 13s Ultra, has finally started to leak on the internet. Fans are excited to see the MI 13 Ultra come out because their flagship 13-lineup is not yet complete. Before it was officially announced, the rumour mill was able to find out what its best parts were.
A well-known leaker from the NotebookCheck website recently said on Twitter that the back of the new Xiaomi 13 Ultra variant will have a new and better periscope camera. The person who gave the tip said that the sensor under the square socket of the periscope would shock everyone.
For those who don’t know, periscope sensors are optical zoomers that have the sensor built into the side. They fold up and fit inside smartphones. Prisms send light from the lens to the image sensor, just like a submarine’s periscope.
Xiaomi already had a periscope zoomer, so it wasn’t something new. Since the previous Ultra MI 12 had a top-of-the-line 48MP periscope with 5X OIS zoom, the next sensor is sure to surprise everyone. The article on the latter’s website also hints that the 13 Ultra’s new optical build will compete with the 3x and 10x photography of the Samsung S22 Ultra at the price of a flagship Xiaomi phone.
Since the leaker didn’t say anything about the camera’s specs, we don’t believe what he said. Xiaomi is best at making optical builds, but its phones don’t have the software to make the most of the lenses. Hardware improvements in smartphones these days are only as useful as the AI that does the post-processing. Most companies use Sony’s top-of-the-line sensors, but they still need to catch up to Samsung, Google, and iPhones when it comes to photography.
Still up in the air is whether or not Xiaomi will improve the periscope zoom through software. We won’t know if our suspicions are right until we hear from the right people. The brand’s next top-of-the-line flagship device will have top-of-the-line features, while lower-end devices with value-added features like the Redmi 10C are made for people on a budget. On the market right now, the Redmi 10C costs Rs. 31,999.
