Google’s client-side encryption is now available to all Gmail users worldwide

Google has announced that “client-side encryption” mode is now generally available for Gmail users with Workspace Enterprise Plus, Education Standard, and Education Plus subscriptions worldwide.

“Client-side encryption for Gmail is now generally available for Google Workspace Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, and Education Standard customers. For customers currently enrolled in the beta, your experience will not change,” Google stated in a blog post.

Client-side encryption will advance encryption capability by giving consumers entire control over their encryption keys – and hence complete control over all data access.

Furthermore, the company stated that users may now send and receive emails or schedule meetings with internal colleagues and external parties with confidence that their sensitive data (including inline photos and attachments) has been encrypted before reaching Google servers.

It also stated that individuals with personal Google accounts would not be allowed to access the service.

The tech titan has also enabled the feature in several of its other Workspace products, including Drive, Docs, and Meet.

The company also revealed that Google Calendar now supports client-side encryption, allowing businesses to add further protection to event descriptions and files.
