WhatsApp Unveils ‘profile icons’ in Group chats to ease identification
WaBetaInfo reported Tuesday that Meta-owned WhatsApp is releasing a new upgrade that would make it easier for consumers in large group chats to identify other users.
The app-tracking website reports that the instant messaging app is receiving a fresh update, increasing the version to 2.23.6.12.
The new profile icon update is now available in group chats for certain lucky beta testers. This feature was published for the iOS beta version but was still in development for Android.
To see if this functionality is available in their WhatsApp accounts, users must initiate a group chat. This would make it easier for users to identify other users and participate in group talks.
Group conversations typically feature multiple people with the same name, making it difficult to determine who is referring to whom. But, by inspecting the profile icon, users can now readily distinguish between various members.
“In particular, when a group member doesn’t have a profile photo or it is hidden, WhatsApp will display a default empty profile photo: this default icon is easily recognizable due to its unique characteristics, including its color, which is the same as the corresponding contact name,” WaBetaInfo said.
This feature will be made available to more people in the coming weeks.
