Internet and broadband services will be suspended in several key cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Gujranwala, starting from midnight tonight. Mobile phone services, however, will remain operational for the time being.

The Interior Ministry has directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to enforce the suspension as part of heightened security measures ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest scheduled for November 24. PTA sources confirmed they received a formal letter regarding the suspension and are reviewing the situation. A decision on mobile phone service suspension will be made based on ground assessments.

Security Threats Highlighted
The National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has issued an alert about potential terrorist attacks during the PTI protest, naming Fitna al-Khawarij as a threat. According to NACTA, members of the group have crossed into Pakistan from Afghanistan and are targeting public gatherings in major cities.

In Islamabad, security measures have been significantly tightened. Key areas, including the sensitive Red Zone and D-Chowk, have been sealed with 2,200 containers blocking critical routes. Over 19,000 police officers, supported by Rangers and Frontier Corps, are deployed in the capital, with reinforcements arriving from Sindh and Azad Kashmir.

The Islamabad police have reminded citizens of Section 144 restrictions in the city, warning against participating in unlawful activities. Public order will be maintained as per Islamabad High Court directives, with resources fully utilized to ensure citizen safety.

Authorities urge citizens to remain cautious and adhere to the law to ensure peace and security during this period.
