WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature to make voice messages more user-friendly by introducing voice message transcripts. This feature converts voice messages into text, helping users follow conversations conveniently, especially when listening to messages is inconvenient.

The transcripts are processed directly on your device, ensuring that no one, including WhatsApp, can access your personal messages. Currently, the feature supports English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian on Android.

On iOS 16, additional languages like French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Turkish, Chinese, and Arabic are included. Users with iOS 17 and later also gain support for languages such as Danish, Finnish, Hebrew, Malay, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, and Thai.

To enable voice message transcripts, simply go to Settings > Chats and toggle the option. Once activated, transcribing a voice message is easy—just long press on the message and select ‘transcribe.’

The feature is rolling out globally and will be available to all users in the coming weeks, with plans to support more languages in the future.

This update is a significant step for WhatsApp in enhancing accessibility, making conversations more seamless for users who prefer reading over listening.
