Slow internet disrupts across Karachi and other cities
Residents across multiple cities in Pakistan faced internet disruptions today, experiencing slow browsing and difficulties in downloading or sharing media.
In Karachi, users from areas such as North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Karsaz reported sluggish internet and disrupted Wi-Fi services, with many unable to use WhatsApp properly.
Similarly, users in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, experienced challenges with browsing and sharing images, videos, and voice notes. Complaints also poured in from Quetta, Balochistan, where WhatsApp services were notably affected.
The internet slowdown impacted not only casual users but also online businesses, leading to significant frustration. Downdetector, a service tracking website issues, confirmed a surge in outages for platforms like Gmail, WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok around 11 AM.
Internet disruptions are not new in Pakistan. The country has been grappling with sporadic outages for months. Just last week, internet and mobile services were affected during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest in Islamabad. Additionally, government tests of an internet firewall earlier this year in July and August caused noticeable slowdowns and platform disruptions.
While previous disruptions had clear causes, no official explanation has been provided for today’s widespread slowdown, leaving users frustrated and uncertain.
