WhatsApp Set to Launch Voice Chat Feature for Group Conversations

WhatsApp is set to enhance the group chat experience with new features tailored for users who prefer voice communication. These updates are part of the latest beta release for Android, version 2.24.25.22, which builds upon earlier improvements in version 2.23.24.20, according to WaBetaInfo.

Key Updates in Voice Group Chats

The standout addition in this beta version is a floating action button located above the message send button, making it easier for users to initiate voice chats. Previously, starting a voice call required navigating to the app’s top action bar or the group chat information screen.

Another significant update introduces a gesture-based method for initiating voice chats. Users can now scroll up within a group conversation to start a voice chat automatically, enhancing convenience and user engagement.

Features for All Groups

Unlike earlier versions, voice chat is no longer restricted to large groups. Smaller groups, including just two participants, can also utilize this feature. WhatsApp has introduced a measure to maintain organization: if a group remains inactive or unjoined for 60 minutes, it will automatically close. However, once a voice chat begins, participants can notify others to join the conversation.

Accessibility and Rollout

These features aim to make group voice chats more user-friendly and accessible. The design changes ensure all group members can easily notice and use the voice chat options.

While these updates are not yet available for public use, they are expected to roll out in the coming weeks, promising a more interactive experience for WhatsApp users.
