SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has officially announced that his satellite internet service, Starlink, is ready to launch in Pakistan, pending approval from the government.

Responding to Pakistani social media activist Sanam Jamali on his X account, Musk stated, “We are waiting for approval from the government.”

Jamali called on Musk to fast-track Starlink’s launch in Pakistan, stating, “Millions await the connectivity, education and opportunities Starlink could offer.”

The announcement comes as Pakistan faces prolonged internet disruptions. Millions of users have experienced slow and unreliable internet, which the government attributes to submarine cable faults. However, reports suggest that authorities may also be experimenting with internet restrictions, including a potential “firewall.”

Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, confirmed last month that discussions with Starlink were ongoing. During a Senate Standing Committee meeting, she remarked, “We are in talks with Starlink to bring them to Pakistan.”

Starlink’s potential entry into the country could offer faster and more reliable internet, addressing the connectivity issues that have plagued Pakistan for months. The government’s approval of Starlink remains crucial as citizens look forward to improved digital access and opportunities.
