Premium users can now enjoy music videos with an upgraded audio bitrate of up to 256kbps, aligning with the high-quality settings already available on YouTube Music. This feature can be enabled in playback settings, providing a richer audio experience.
Mobile users can take advantage of the newly added 4x playback speed, surpassing the previous limit of 2x. Additionally, YouTube Shorts on iOS now supports picture-in-picture mode, allowing users to multitask seamlessly.
Another update for iOS users is the introduction of smart downloads for Shorts. This feature automatically downloads videos of potential interest during strong internet connections, enabling offline viewing. This functionality was previously exclusive to Android users.
For desktop users, YouTube has introduced a “jump ahead” feature that allows skipping to the most engaging parts of a video, simplifying navigation for an improved viewing experience.
YouTube is also expanding its AI-powered “Ask Music” feature to Premium users in the UK and Ireland via YouTube Music, promising a smarter and more interactive music discovery experience. The company confirmed that these features will roll out to iOS users shortly.
