Anthropic has secured a massive $65 billion in Series H funding, pushing its valuation to around $965 billion, marking one of the largest funding milestones in the artificial intelligence sector so far.

Alongside this, the company has launched Claude Opus 4.8, an upgraded version of its AI model, which brings improved performance across key benchmarks and more refined responses.

Anthropic said the new model will be available at similar pricing to earlier versions, keeping it accessible for existing users and businesses.

The bigger attention, however, is on its upcoming model “Mythos”, which the company says will be released to customers soon. Anthropic describes Mythos as a next-generation system with highly advanced cybersecurity capabilities, placing it among its most powerful AI developments to date.

Early information shared by the company suggests Mythos is designed to identify and analyse complex software vulnerabilities, with performance that may go beyond most human-level security researchers in certain areas.

This has naturally raised discussion in the tech world about how such systems could be used and regulated in the future.

Anthropic also said that major tech companies, including Amazon, Microsoft, and Apple, will be able to use Mythos specifically for cybersecurity-related work, highlighting its focus on enterprise and defence-grade applications.

On the technical side, the company acknowledged a common issue in AI systems where models can sometimes become overconfident or present uncertain results too strongly. It said Opus 4.8 has been improved to better recognise uncertainty and reduce unsupported claims.

The existence of Mythos was previously hinted at in internal materials that were not properly secured, but the company has now officially confirmed its development and upcoming release.

With new funding, an upgraded model, and a powerful upcoming release, Anthropic is clearly pushing to strengthen its position in the fast-moving global AI race.
