Gmail introduces multiple new AI features

A free version of AI Overviews will also be available.

Google has introduced several new artificial intelligence features in Gmail, powered by its Gemini AI model. Some of these features will be available to free users, while others will require a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription.

One of the premium features is AI Overviews, similar to the AI Overviews available in Google Search. Through this feature, users can ask questions in the Gmail search bar about their emails, and the AI will provide detailed answers based on the messages.

A free version of AI Overviews will also be available, allowing users to get summaries of email threads. Another feature, called Proofreader, will be limited to subscribers and will offer suggestions to improve grammar, word choice, sentence structure, and overall email quality.

Google is also introducing an AI Inbox feature designed to help users manage large volumes of emails by highlighting important messages, though detailed information about this feature has not yet been shared and it will also be limited to subscribers.

For free Gmail users, Google is rolling out “Help Me Write” and Suggested Replies features, enabling users to use Gemini AI to draft emails and responses more easily.

According to the company, the rollout of Gemini-powered features has already begun, initially for users in the United States, and will expand to other countries in the coming months.
