Pakistan’s local mobile phone manufacturing and assembly increased by 10 percent month-on-month in May 2026, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
Local manufacturers produced and assembled 2.0 million mobile phones during May, compared with 1.81 million units in April, indicating a recovery in monthly output.
Despite the monthly increase, cumulative production remained lower than last year. During the first five months of 2026, local manufacturers assembled 11.17 million mobile phones, down 7 percent from 12.05 million units recorded during the same period in 2025.
A year-on-year comparison for May 2026 could not be made because the PTA published April and May 2025 production figures on a cumulative basis rather than as separate monthly data.
Among major brands, VGO Tel recorded the strongest growth during the January-May period, with production rising 29 percent year-on-year. Tecno followed with a 24 percent increase, while Samsung posted a 7 percent gain.
In contrast, Vivo’s production fell 30 percent during the period, followed by Itel with a 29 percent decline and Infinix with a 19 percent drop.
The data also showed that local manufacturing continued to meet most of Pakistan’s mobile phone demand. Locally assembled and manufactured phones fulfilled 86 percent of domestic demand in May 2026, up from 83 percent in April.
During the first five months of 2026, local production met 85 percent of the country’s total mobile phone demand.
