A beachgoer who came upon an eyeless water creature that resembled “an orc from Lord of the Rings” was scared.
On the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, Andrea Jud, 39, happened upon the lifeless body while strolling along the beach at Gabr el-Bint.
The alien creature’s mouth was spread wide, revealing its two sets of jaws, which are thought to aid in its hunt for prey.
Although Andrea claims to be perplexed by the strange-looking creature, she is concerned that it “suffered a really painful death.”
I didn’t handle it. I was uneasy just looking at it,” she remarked.
“I was terrified. It had a Lord of the Rings orc-like appearance.
The creature’s location, which Andrea believes to have been 40 feet inland and out of the reach of the waves, added to the mystery.
I was camping with a group of pals, and we had hiked from Dahab to the spot along the shore.
“The skin was dry, dark grey, and uneven; it appeared to be dead. Its head is unusual and features an open mouth that reveals pointed teeth.
The aperture on the rear of the skull, where one might expect to see the ears, could have actually been the gills.
I failed to notice any eyes. Like a seahorse, the body was long and curved, with the end pointing up toward the head.
She continued: “I was surprised at how big it was – maybe the length of my arm – and the head was bigger than my fist.
“It was gruesome to look at, and reminded me of the reality of death.”
The Swiss development consultant posted her images to a Facebook group for marine identification in search of solutions.
One person referred to it as a “baby Loch Ness monster.”
Another referred to the evil Harry Potter persona as “Voldemort, I believe.”
Some people speculated that it was a mermaid, the “demogorgon” from the Netflix series Stranger Things, or just “the stuff of nightmares.”
Others, though, believed that the jaws-within-jaws provided a hint.
When a fish is trapped in the main jaws of a moray eel, a second set of jaws located in the throat springs into action and drags the prey back to be swallowed.
If it is a moray, the scorching Egyptian sun may have rendered it unrecognisable.
