A dolphin calf was found stuck in a crab trap under a Florida pier. Authorities and marine rescue workers were able to free it.
According to the Clearwater Fire & Rescue Department, a lifeguard saw a dolphin swimming around near a large fishing pier on Clearwater Beach and went over to get a closer look.
“When he went out to investigate, he found a young dolphin tangled in the ropes of a crab trap,“ according to a Facebook post from the department.
“Lifeguards were able to free the dolphin from the ropes, and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium was called to take over the situation.”

A Facebook post from the Clearwater Marine Aquarium says that rescuers tried to put the calf back with its mother, but once the dolphin was set free, it swam toward the coast.
The calf seems to be having a difficult time swimming.
“The Southeast Stranding Network and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) directed us to transport the animal to SeaWorld for rehabilitation,” the aquarium said.
