Large and unidentified object found on Florida beach
An unidentified wooden object that had been buried for a very long time and was just recently exposed in part by erosion is being investigated by officials in a county in Florida.
Erosion caused by Hurricanes Ian and Nicole led to the uncovering of the object at Daytona Beach Shores, according to the officials of Volusia County. The object, which looks to be a piece of a wooden structure, was found there.
Volusia Beach Safety Deputy Chief Tammy Malphurs told the media, “This erosion is unprecedented at this point. We haven’t seen this kind of erosion in a very long time.”
Added, “I’ve been on the beach probably 25 years and that’s the first time I’ve seen it exposed.”
It was not entirely evident if the structure was an old boat or an old dock when we first discovered it.
According to what Malphurs said to the media, “We’re not sure what it is but it is a large piece of debris, probably about 80 to 100 feet in length.”
A state archaeology team is scheduled to visit the beach in the near future, according to the officials, in an effort to determine what the object is.
