Akash Ambani replaces Mukesh Ambani as the new chairman of Jio
Akash Ambani, the 65-year-old billionaire’s eldest son, will take over as chairman of the board of Jio Infocomm, Reliance Industries’ digital division, as part of Mukesh Ambani’s succession planning.
With effect from June 27, Mukesh Ambani resigns from his position as corporate director.
In a regulatory statement, Reliance Jio Infocomm stated that the board of the firm “accepted the appointment of Akash M. Ambani, non-executive director, as chairman of the board of directors of the company” at a meeting. The note stated that this occurred following his father’s resignation on June 27 at the end of the workday.
The other candidates chosen were Pankaj Mohan Pawar, whose five-year term as managing director started on June 27. Raminder Singh Gujral and KV Chowdary were chosen as independent directors.
The parent company of all Jio digital services brands, including Reliance Jio Infocomm, Mukesh Ambani will continue to hold the positions of chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), as well as chairman of Jio Platforms Ltd.
