The thumbnail-sized bird turns its head and exhibits brilliant reddish pink and black colours. As the viewing angle shifts, the colours appear to shift as well.
According to the caption that goes with the video, the bright colours of Anna’s hummingbirds are caused by microscopic features in their feathers that spread light.
The video fascinated Twitter users, who could not refrain from appreciating nature. One user said, “Ok, this beautiful thing made my day,“
Another person commented that the bird resembled an “upgraded version of chameleon.”
One response said, “I love hummingbirds, because they’re basically what happens when birds evolve to be insects.”
One more user said, “Although I’m sure science has an evolutionary explanation for it, I’m giving this one to God.”
