Chinese woman sues male colleague for breaking 3 of her ribs

Hugging is a great way to connect with people, but a Chinese woman had to go to the emergency room after a hug from a coworker. In the strange news of the day, a woman from China sued her coworker because he allegedly broke her ribs when he hugged her too hard. Yes, all of this did happen.

In May 2021, the woman was talking to a coworker at her Yueyang City workplace. In the middle of their conversation, a male coworker allegedly walked up to the woman and gave her a too-tight hug, which made her scream in pain. She said that the man hugged her too hard and that it hurt her chest even after she left work. She didn’t go right away to get help, but she put hot oil on her chest and went to bed.

A week later, though, she was still having sharp pains in her chest. She went to the hospital for a checkup. An X-ray showed that she had three broken ribs, two on the right side of her rib cage and one on the left. Because of this, she had to miss work and pay money for medical bills. The woman also talked to her male co-worker. They tried to come to an agreement, but they couldn’t. After the man said that there was no proof that his friendly hug caused the injury, the woman sued him and asked for money to make up for her financial losses.

As there was no proof that the woman’s broken ribs were caused by other physical activities, the court said that the colleague had to pay the woman 10,000 yuan (about $1,473) as compensation.
