Man from Arkansas finds 3.29-carat gem near Crater of Diamonds

• David Anderson of Murfreesboro discovered a 3.29-carat brown diamond.
• The largest find at the park since a 4.38-carat yellow diamond.
• Anderson claimed to have frequented the park and discovered more than 400 diamonds.

A visitor to the park recently discovered a 3.29-carat brown diamond, the largest to be discovered there since September 2021, according to Arkansas State Parks.

According to a press release from park officials, David Anderson of Murfreesboro was wet-sifting soil when he noticed something bright.

Anderson explained to park officials, “At first I thought it was quartz but wondered why it was so shiny,” After I took it up, I saw it was a diamond,” the person said.

Throughout the last 16 years, Anderson claimed to have frequented the park and discovered more than 400 diamonds, including a 6.19-carat white diamond in April 2014.

The name of Anderson’s most recent finding is “B.U.D.”

He answered, “That’s for ‘Big, Ugly Diamond.

The largest find at the park since a 4.38-carat yellow diamond was found in September 2021, according to officials, is Anderson’s gem.
