Israeli Soldier Noa Marciano Confirmed Hostage by Hamas
Following the publication of a video by the Palestinian group’s armed wing, the Israeli Army has acknowledged that 19-year-old soldier Noa Marciano is being taken prisoner by Hamas militants. Marciano was later killed in an airstrike, according to the film. The Israeli Army conveyed sympathy to the Marciano family and promised to use all feasible means to return the hostages.
Noa Marciano, a member of the Combat Intelligence Collection Corps, was one of 240 individuals kidnapped by Hamas on October 7. The soldier, who reportedly turned 19 while imprisoned, was hiding in a bomb shelter in Nahal Oz when he was kidnapped by Hamas. Noa and her pals ran in their pyjamas after hearing gunfire during the incident, according to her mother, Adi Marciano.
The confirmation by the Israeli Army is the first official recognition of a hostage’s identity since the mass abduction. Marciano was shown in the Hamas film delivering a message in Hebrew, giving her name and identity card details. The army chastised Hamas for using psychological terrorism in such videos.
International pressure is rising on Israel to reduce civilian casualties in Gaza as it conducts significant air and ground operations. According to the Gaza health ministry, nearly 11,000 people have died, including 4,630 children. The tragic condition of Noa Marciano adds urgency to calls for a resolution and raises global awareness of the ongoing conflict.
