In New York City (NYC), an enigmatic green slime was observed seeping out of drains and onto the streets. People were curious when multiple recordings of the incident appeared on social media. Also, it provoked a rush of responses from online users. Some people said they believed it to be “radioactive material,” while others found solace in humor and made Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles jokes.

A video that X user Dan Pantelo posted shows the green liquid covering a street in New York City. With a nod to the fictional city from the Batman television series, “Can anybody explain this or are we just living in full-blown Gotham, rn,” the X user posted.

“So there’s literal green sludge bubbling up from the ground next to the World Trade Center right now,” wrote Pantelo’s caption for a subsequent photo that she uploaded.

According to the Independent, the slime-like material seeping onto the streets is dye tracing. Authorities frequently utilize it to find leaks in dimly lit areas, such as subterranean pipes or sewers.
