In 1997, Minnie Driver and Matt Damon started dating after acting together in the movie “Good Will Hunting,” where they played a couple. The film, with Ben Affleck and Robin Williams, got nine Oscar nominations. However, they broke up before the 1998 Oscars.

Damon and Affleck won for Best Original Screenplay. During Damon’s thank-you speech, cameras showed Driver not looking very happy. A video of her not-so-happy face went viral online, and she replied to fans’ comments about it.

Minnie Driver opened up about feeling sad at the 1998 Oscars when she saw her Good Will Hunting co-star, Matt Damon, with his new girlfriend after their breakup.

A video of her looking upset during Damon and Ben Affleck’s acceptance speech became popular recently. Minnie responded to a fan on Instagram, sharing the reason behind her expression from that Oscars moment. This happened a few weeks ago but was reshared by Comments By Celebs on December 12th.

“Matt had ended our relationship a few weeks before this, and was at the Oscars with his new gf… I was devastated,” Driver added on IG. “Wish I could have celebrated more as it was an amazing moment for all of us, and for this wonderful film!”

In May 2022, Minnie Driver chatted about her book, “Managing Expectations: A Memoir in Essay,” and opened up about her short romance with Matt Damon. She shared that although they had a nice relationship, it ended before their movie “Good Will Hunting” got awards.

Her family noticed that both she and Matt were rising fast in their careers, and being young, it was hard to stay grounded. They thought things might not go well due to different factors.

Minnie Driver stressed that her family liked Matt, but their busy lives made things tricky.

Despite the breakup, she doesn’t hold any hard feelings. Minnie Driver has now happily settled with filmmaker Addison O’Dea since 2018 and recently celebrated their 5th anniversary.

After he and Minnie Driver broke up, Matt Damon started dating Winona Ryder. They met in 1997 when Damon was still with Driver, and Gwyneth Paltrow introduced them in December of that year.

Even though Damon was in a relationship, he and Ryder began dating. In the early months, their relationship faced some issues, especially when Damon said he was single in a 1998 interview, surprising Minnie Driver.

Despite being famous, Damon and Ryder kept their relationship private. After two years, they separated in the spring of 2000.

In a 2004 Playboy interview, Damon said their relationship was “great” but didn’t say why they broke up. He jokingly mentioned it ended for ordinary reasons, not something dramatic like a party where he felt hurt by Richard Gere’s interest in Ryder.
