Former flight attendant Nina Alu and the “Godfather of Punk,” Iggy Pop, have been together since 1999. Born James Newell Osterberg Jr. in 1947, Iggy Pop’s career began with The Stooges in 1967. His solo hits like “Lust for Life” and collaborations with David Bowie solidified his legendary status. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 and honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020, Pop had Alu by his side for these milestones.

The couple met in Miami in 1999 when Pop invited Alu and a friend for a ride in his cherry-red Cadillac DeVille. They lived together for eight years before marrying in 2008, marking Pop’s third marriage. Alu, a Howard University graduate, switched from journalism to becoming a flight attendant, which led to her meeting Pop.

Pop has credited Alu with bringing happiness and simplicity to his life. During his Rock Hall induction, he praised Alu, declaring her “cool.” The couple enjoys dancing around their house and prefers quiet evenings with wine and desserts after Pop’s energetic performances.

Though they have no children together, they share a Moluccan cockatoo named Biggy Pop, an Instagram star with 118,000 followers. Alu manages Biggy’s social media, often capturing moments of Pop playing with the bird. Rescued from a perilous situation in Florida, Biggy has become an integral part of their lives, even being named the “founding patron” of the Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital in Australia.
