Jim Scott, a cherished voice on Cincinnati radio for nearly half a century, passed away on June 28, 2024, at the age of 81 after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Jim’s warm personality and engaging style made him a beloved figure on 700 WLW-AM and other stations, leaving a lasting legacy in the radio industry and his community.
Born Stephen James Claggett on June 11, 1989, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Jim Scott grew up in Indiana. Despite keeping much about his family private, Jim often shared fond memories and stories that reflected his roots. His birthday on December 3 was always a special occasion, celebrated with family and friends. As a Sagittarius, he was known for his adventurous and optimistic spirit. He was of mixed ethnicity and held American nationality, following the Christian faith.
Jim’s educational journey began in his hometown, where he attended high school before moving on to Binghamton University’s Harpur College, earning a bachelor’s degree. However, it was his tenure at iHeartMedia, where he hosted the morning show from 1981 until his retirement in 2015, that cemented his legacy. Jim’s voice became a staple in Cincinnati homes, known for his storytelling and deep connection with listeners.
In March 2024, Jim was honored as the honorary grand marshal of the Findlay Market Parade, a testament to his significant impact on the community. Following his ALS diagnosis in the summer of 2022, there was an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues, highlighting the deep affection and respect people had for him. Despite his illness, Jim remained a beloved figure, remembered for his dedication to his listeners and his craft.
