Stanley Kotowski, a 60-year-old from Methuen, Massachusetts, has been missing since last Friday while on vacation with his family in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. His sudden disappearance has deeply worried his family and local authorities, who are working around the clock to find him.
On the morning of August 16, Kotowski left the vacation rental under unsettling circumstances. He was seen leaving without his shoes, phone, or wallet. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office posted about the incident on Facebook, noting how unusual it was. Kotowski had been struggling with severe anxiety and insomnia, and his mental state had worsened recently, which might have led to his sudden departure.
Kotowski’s wife, Jackie, shared that his anxiety and paranoia had been intensifying, leading to fears that someone was after him. Despite these challenges, Kotowski’s son, Zak, pointed out that his father’s physical strength could help him endure, even in a confused state. Kotowski is described as a 6-foot-tall man weighing about 200 pounds, with short brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark Coors Light T-shirt and dark-colored shorts.
The search for Kotowski has been extensive and continues to grow. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has deployed canines, drones, and helicopters to cover as much ground as possible. Local firefighters are also involved, thoroughly searching both residential and wooded areas. Kotowski’s information has been shared with law enforcement agencies statewide, and national databases have been updated to aid in the search.
Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding Kotowski. A recent sighting of him was captured by a resident’s Ring camera, and investigators are urging locals to check their home security footage for any signs of him. If anyone has any information, they are asked to contact the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at 843-524-2777.
