Richard Burton, born in 1925, was a Welsh actor and singer. He attended Eastern Primary School and Port Talbot Secondary School, where he won the Eisteddfod Prize for his soprano voice. After leaving school to work in coal mines, he joined the Royal Air Force’s Air Training Corps and Taibach Youth Centre. Burton’s acting skills were developed during his time in the Air Training Corps. He starred in a 1943 production of Pygmalion and was offered a role in “The Druid’s Rest” by Welsh dramatist Emlyn Williams. He attended Exeter College in Oxford and trained as a pilot before becoming a Royal Air Force navigator.

Richard Burton, a renowned actor, gained fame in the 1950s and 1960s. He appeared in various British films, including “The Lady’s Not Burning,” and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in the 1952 film “My Cousin Rachel.” He also starred in the film “Prince of Players” and “Alexander the Great.” Burton was known as “The King of Broadway” after playing King Arthur in “Camelot.” However, his free-spending and alcohol addiction led to his death in 1970.

Richard Burton married Sybil Williams in 1949, who got divorced in 1963. He then married Elizabeth Taylor, Susan Miller, and Sally Hay, and each marriage resulted in divorce. Burton had three children.

Cause of Death

After years of consuming up to four bottles of hard liquor and smoking about 100 cigarettes a day, Burton experienced numerous health problems. He suffered an intracerebral hemorrhage at home in Switzerland on August 5, 1984, and passed away. His final resting place is the Old Cemetery in Celigny, Switzerland.
