Karachi: According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD): A thick, swirling fog has blanketed Karachi this morning, significantly reducing visibility and making early commutes challenging.
Areas including Korangi, Airport, Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Malir are heavily affected. Travel on the motorway from Karachi to DHA City is risky due to the dense fog.
Motorway Police have advised drivers to reduce speed, use fog lights, maintain a safe distance, avoid overtaking, and follow lane discipline to prevent accidents.
Dense fog has engulfed Hyderabad and surrounding areas, with visibility dropping to near zero in inner parts of the city. Major routes, including the M-9 Motorway, Indus Highway, and N-5 National Highway, are heavily affected, creating serious difficulties for drivers commuting to schools, offices, and other destinations. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise extra caution while traveling.
In Badin, thick fog has reduced visibility to zero, forcing traffic on the national highway to halt for several hours. Due to the hazardous conditions, many private schools have announced closures to ensure student safety.
Heavy fog continues to blanket Sujawal and nearby areas, restricting visibility to only a few meters. Commuters are facing major challenges reaching schools and offices, as well as traveling toward Karachi, Hyderabad, Badin, and Tharparkar.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that fog intensity may increase further. Motorists and motorcyclists are advised to use fog lights, reduce speed, and drive with extreme caution to avoid accidents.
Foggy and cold conditions are also affecting several other districts of Sindh, including Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Larkana, Tando Jam, and Mohenjo Daro. Reduced visibility in these areas is creating hazardous conditions for daily commuters.
In Balochistan, most districts are expected to experience cold and dry weather, while northern areas may face intense cold with partly cloudy skies. Fog is likely to develop in Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Dera Murad Jamali, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad, Jhal Magsi, Sibi, and surrounding regions.
Several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan, may also experience reduced visibility during morning hours due to fog.
Islamabad and its surrounding areas are expected to remain cold with partly cloudy skies, while light fog or mist may occur during the early morning hours in some locations.
According to the nationwide forecast issued by PMD, cold and dry weather will prevail across most parts of the country today. Mountainous regions will experience severe cold, while the plains of Punjab, upper Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may remain under moderate to heavy fog during morning hours. Misty conditions are also expected in the Pothohar region, upper KP, and Kashmir.
PMD and local authorities have advised commuters to drive with extreme caution, particularly on highways and motorways, as fog intensity may increase further throughout the day and significantly affect visibility in many regions.
