Bipartisan gun control agreement reached in the US Senate. By the end of the week, the US could vote; on the country’s first significant gun control legislation in decades. It is called the Bipartisan gun control agreement.
For the first time in close to 30 years, a bipartisan group of US senators; has agreed on significant gun control legislation; clearing the way for a vote in the Senate by the end of the week.

The 80-page bill, which was unveiled on Tuesday; calls for increased background checks; tighter controls on young people purchasing weapons, and the temporary seizure of firearms from persons; deemed to be a danger to themselves or others.

It cleared an early procedural barrier by 64-34; with 14 Republicans joining all 48 Democrats and two allied independents to approve the plan.

“I think this week will see the passage of the most important anti-gun violence legislation; that Congress has approved in the last 30 years.
Senator Chris Murphy, the leading Democrat in the negotiations; declared on the Senate floor that this was a breakthrough. Furthermore, it is a bipartisan breakthrough.

Senator Chuck Schumer, the majority leader in the Senate; promised to proceed as soon as possible with a motion to proceed.
